World Premiere Adaptation

An adaptation of Sophocles’ PHILOCTETES

by Kirt Shineman

"They’re betting on the hour you die."

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Philo is a new play inspired by the Greek tragedy Philoctetes, but set firmly in the world of prediction markets, algorithms, and crowd forecasting. More importantly, it's interactive. Throughout the performance, audience members will have the opportunity to make predictions that become part of the experience itself.

Every day we're asked to predict the future. We predict stock markets, sporting events, and just about everything else. But what if knowing the odds changes the choices we make? And if we can see what's most likely to happen, are we still free to choose our own path?

Part thriller, part modern Greek tragedy, and part social experiment, The Philo asks big questions about fate, sacrifice, truth, and the price of certainty.

Everybody's making predictions these days. Why not make a few at the theatre?" - W.M.
